Backward planning starts at your desired outcome and works toward today. Instead of listing tasks forward, you ask "what must be true for this goal to happen?" at every level — creating a logical tree where each branch is a prerequisite for the one above.
How does the AI know what steps to generate?+
Goaltree uses GPT-4o with a goal-specific system prompt. It considers your stated goal, any domain context you provide, and the depth setting you choose. You can also tell it what to avoid when regenerating a branch.
Can I edit the generated tree?+
Yes — every node is editable, deletable, or re-expandable. You can regenerate a single branch with new instructions without touching the rest of the tree.
What's the critical path view?+
The critical path is the sequence of steps that, if completed, unblocks everything else. Goaltree surfaces this as a focused linear walkthrough so you always know what to do next without looking at the whole tree.
